NCWCA Conference 2025

Call for Proposals
Writing center work often requires that we adapt and initiate change; these changes may be subtle, thoughtful shifts or sweeping adjustments that resonate throughout our centers, our services, and our careers. This year's conference, themed "Biggest Little Writing Center Moments," invites you to explore and share the impactful changes — both big and small — that have transformed your center, your professional journey, and the experiences of students and tutors alike.

Perhaps you’ve refined your tutor training methods, reimagined your physical space to foster collaboration, or integrated new technologies in unexpected ways. We also invite you to explore the professional “little moves” that have shaped your career path and your perspective—whether that means transitioning from tutor to administrator, shifting from one writing center role to another, or finding ways to grow within your current position.
We encourage submissions from writing center professionals at all levels, including (and especially) peer tutors, professional tutors, staff, administrators, and directors. This is an opportunity to showcase innovative approaches and spark dialogue about the varied and creative ways writing centers and writing center professionals make a difference.

Session Types
The 2025 conference will host 50-minute concurrent sessions. We invite proposals for two types of sessions at the conference:

-
Full session (50 minutes): These sessions offer an in-depth exploration of a topic, with 40-45 minutes for the presentation or activity, followed by 5-10 minutes for Q&A. Full sessions are ideal for comprehensive presentations, interactive workshops, or facilitated roundtable discussions.

-
Half session (25 minutes): These sessions provide a more concise format, with 20 minutes for the presentation or activity, followed by 5 minutes for Q&A. Half sessions are suited for focused presentations, brief workshops, or quick roundtable discussions. Half session presentations will be paired with another presenter by the conference committee.

Proposals may be submitted by individuals or groups and can take the form of presentations, workshops, or roundtable discussions. We encourage submissions from a variety of perspectives and writing center professionals.
Proposal Evaluation & Selection
All submitted proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

-
Specificity of the session plan: Proposals should clearly outline the structure and content of the session, detailing key topics, activities, and timing.

-
Engagement of the audience: Proposals should demonstrate how they will actively engage participants, whether through discussion, interactive exercises, opportunities for reflection, or invitations to apply presented material.

-
Value to others: Proposals should clearly articulate the relevance and benefits of the session for attendees. This includes explaining how the session will contribute to participants’ knowledge, skills, or professional development.

Proposals that make strong connections to current scholarship or recent developments in the field will be given priority. We encourage presenters to highlight how their sessions are informed by or contribute to ongoing conversations within their area of expertise.

Selected proposals will be notified by Monday, February 10, 2025.

We ask that selected presenters confirm their proposal acceptance by Friday, February 28, 2025.
